Shape
Overview
The Shape operator allows users to generate predefined spline shapes directly within the RailClone graph editor. This eliminates the need to manually create and import splines from 3ds Max and is particularly suited to use with nested generators. Available shape types include Line, Rectangle, and Circle, each with configurable parameters.
Usage
- Add the Shape Operator: Drag the Shape node into the RailClone Style Editor.
- Select a Shape Type: Choose between Line, Rectangle, or Circle from the dropdown.
- Adjust Parameters: Modify shape-specific settings such as length, width, radius, and curve steps.
- Connect to the Graph: Use the shape as an input for further RailClone operations.
Interface & Parameters

The Properties panel for the Shape operator includes the following options:
Shape
Dropdown to select the type of shape:
Line
- Length: Defines the total length of the line.
- Direction: Sets the axis along which the line is drawn (X or Y).
Rectangle
- Length: Specifies the rectangle's horizontal dimension.
- Width: Specifies the rectangle's vertical dimension.
Circle
- Radius: Defines the circle's size.
- Curve Steps: Controls the smoothness of curved shapes by setting the number of interpolation steps.
Tips & Best Practices
- Use Curve Steps to adjust the resolution of circular or curved shapes for smoother deformation.
- The Shape operator is ideal for use with nested generators, especially when you plan to add a style to the library, which would potentially lose any splines referenced in the scene.
