Max 2017 crashes with Editable Mesh segments .

Problem

Using Editable Mesh source geometry or modifiers at the top of the stack that output editable mesh geometry can cause 3DS Max to crash when rendering. Editable Poly objects do not cause any problems

Solution

This problem occurs with RailClone 2.7 in 3ds Max 2017 only. We apologise for this inconvenience and we've already fixed the issue in the next major version of RailClone, until this is released there are a couple of easy workarounds you can use:

  • Collapse the segment to an Editable Poly object to remove the Turbosmooth modifier.
  • Use the OpenSubDiv modifier instead of Turbosmooth.
  • Add a Turn to Poly modifier to the top of the stack.
  • Turn off the instancing engine, though this is not recommended for styles with high polygon or segment counts.
