Licensing Guide

Types of Licenses

You have two options for managing software licenses: Standalone Licenses and Floating/Network Licenses.

  • Standalone License: Tied to one specific computer. You need a separate license for each machine where you want to install the software.
  • Floating/Network License: Stored on a central server and accessible by any computer on the same network. You need licenses only for the maximum number of people using the software simultaneously.

Suitability for Business Size

Depending on your business size, different license types offer various benefits.

  • Small Businesses: Standalone Licenses are easier and faster to set up. The license is activated during the software installation.

  • Large Businesses: Floating Licenses are more flexible and cost-effective for larger settings. They also allow central management of all licenses.

How They Work

Here's how each type functions:

  • Standalone License: After your purchase, you'll receive a generic license code that must be activated on the specific computer where you will use the software.

  • Floating License: Requires a License Server to be set up on a machine. This server will manage all the license requests from user computers. For instance, if you have 20 employees but only 10 licenses, no more than 10 people can use the software at the same time.

Network Connectivity

Network connectivity plays a role, especially for Floating Licenses:

  • Offline Use: Not possible with Floating Licenses as they are stored on a network server.
  • Server Requirements: The server doesn't need to be powerful, but it must be running whenever you're using the licensed software.

Opening Scenes Without Active Licenses

You can open scenes without an active license, but there are restrictions. You won't be able to edit or render these objects in the software.

License Activation

After purchasing a license, activation is necessary.

  • Automatic Activation: Requires an internet connection. Activation codes are sent and installed automatically.

  • Manual Activation: Useful if you don't have an internet connection. You'll receive necessary codes and a secure link to complete the activation process.

Activation Limits and Troubleshooting

Be cautious, as activation limits usually apply.

  • Limited Number of Activations: You can activate a license a specific number of times, often five. If you reach this limit, you'll need to contact customer support.

  • Troubleshooting: If you encounter any issues, customer support is available for assistance.

Network Rendering

For network rendering, you won't need separate licenses for each rendering node. These nodes are easier to set up and don't require activation.
